Covid 19

Due to COVID 19, the way your lessons are conducted will change when you start/resume them. Not only will your instructor do things differently, but you may also be required to complete additional tasks.

Due to the fact it has been a long time since you have been driving on the road, you may be asked to provide a ‘driving licence check code’ so your instructor can re-evaluate your driving licence. New pupils will be asked for this in all cases.

The code can be obtained at: www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

The code lasts for 21 days and can only be used once. For the instructor to look at the code they will need you to supply the following information:

  • Your code
  • The last 8 characters of your driver number which can be found on your driving licence

Your instructor will check the details only 24 hours before you next/first lesson takes place.

You will also be asked to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5m with or without eyesight correction when you meet up for the first time.

Before every lesson, your instructor will contact you to check:

  • If you have any symptoms of Covid19, such as a high temperature or a cough - find out more here NHS Covid 19 Sypmtoms
  • You know, or have been in contact with, anyone is showing symptoms.
  • You, or anyone they have been in contact with, have travelled home from a high-risk region.

Your instructor will also advise you that:

  • They will always be keeping the windows open
  • The car will be sanitised before you get in
  • Payments are to be made by card or bank transfer where possible
  • To wear appropriate clothing (long sleeved garments) and to avoid open toed shoes

Your instructor will only collect you for the lesson once they are happy with your responses and compliance with the terms and conditions.

Once your instructor arrives at the pick-up point, they will then assess whether you are well enough to start the lesson.

Before your lesson begins:

  • The instructor will not let you in to the car straight away
  • From a distance (minimum of 1 metre) they will have a conversation with you to assess whether you are well enough to start the lesson
  • You will be asked to to sanitise you hands before touching the car, this will be provided by your instructor
  • You will be asked to place all personal belongings in the boot of the car, this is to reduce the risk of infection
  • You must now wear a face covering, as of 15th June. For the first few days, face coverings will be handed out to those who have forgotten theirs but you should try to bring your own. The wearing of masks is assessed on an individual basis
  • Masks are mandatory on driving tests until further notice, your instructor will provide you with one if you have forgotten yours

If the instructor is not 100% satisfied with your state of health or demeanour, they will not start the lesson and explain the lesson will have to be postponed to a later date.

In addition to these precautions concerning driving lessons, we remind you of measures recommended to reduce the risk of the infection of COVID 19 or any seasonal illnesses that should be rigorously observed:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water
  • Limit contact with other people
  • Maintain the minimum of 1 metre social distancing guidance
  • Sneeze into your arm (when possible) and not into the air and use disposable tissues when sneezing or coughing

Publicity & Testimonials

After the pupil has passed their driving test we will ask if they wish to have their picture taken and a testimonial, this will be with their permission published on our website and social media. If under the age of 18 we will need the permission of the parent or guardian.
